GeoJoin processor

Edited

The GeoJoin processor retrieves geoshapes for a country's administrative divisions, such as states, counties, postal codes, etc.

Remember that depending on their level of detail, geoshapes may consume a lot of memory. Be aware that joining geoshapes to your dataset can considerably increase how much memory that dataset uses.An alternative is to create your map in Studio, where Opendatasoft can provide you with the necessary geographic data.

Note that geoshapes for every country are available in "World," but the administrative subdivisions are only available in the countries listed below.

Note that using this processor will count against your quota of Data Hub datasets consumed. However, if you reuse the processor in other datasets with the same geographical subdivision, it will not be counted again.

That data is available for the following countries:

  • Australia

  • Belgium

  • Canada

  • France

  • Germany

  • Israel

  • Italy

  • Mexico

  • The Netherlands

  • Portugal

  • Spain

  • Sweden

  • Switzerland

  • The United Kingdom

  • The United States

  • World

Setting the processor

To set the parameters of the GeoJoin processor, follow the indications from the table below for the general parameters. See the "Referentials" section below for what administrative divisions are available for each country.

Remember to be sure that the data in your local key matches what's expected in the "Repository" you have chosen. For example, a valid postal code might seem sufficient, but not match the repository's expected format, which is often an official code. For example, the official INSEE code for the 1st arrondissement in Paris is 75101, and not 75001 as you might expect.Note that if you don't have the appropriate data, but do have sufficiently detailed geographic data, you may be able to use the Retrieve Administrative Divisions processor to obtain the necessary data.

This is the name of the geoshapes the processor will use to produce the map (see the Referentials section below to know which administrative divisions are available in your chosen country).

Yes

Local key

This is the name of the column in your dataset that contains the administrative division data you want matched to the "Repository" parameter.

Referentials

When you select a country in the processor, you will see the administrative levels available for that country. You may also consult this table to know what administrative levels are available for each country.

When using the 'World' country, the processor will try to retrieve the divisions corresponding to the chosen level (between 1 and 7). Be aware, though, that administrative divisions are not homogenized across countries. For example, French "cantons" are considered level 4, whereas Swiss "kantons" are level 2.

If the referential used has a license with mandatory attribution, using Retrieve Administrative Divisions processor will transfer the attribution.
