Supported compressed file formats

The platform limits the size of files that you can use to create datasets to 240 Mo. As such, if necessary you can use compressed files to create datasets. For example, compressing a CSV file typically reduces it to a tenth of its original size.

Zip compression is readily supported by most operating systems, and gzip and bzip2 are available as command-line tools in Unix-based operating systems.

Opendatasoft supports the following compressed file formats:

  • .zip (UTF-8 encoding for file names is recommended)
  • .bz2
  • .tar
  • .gz
  • .gzip
  • .tar.gz
  • .tgz
  • .tar.bz2
You can also use compressed file formats on the platform to create a dataset with multiple files.
